Lavrion which is the closest town to Sounion, only 30' from Athens, has a lively waterfront and town center full of restaurants, ouzeries, cafe-bars and a very nice fish market. In fact you should stop and see the Lavrion mineral museum as well as the ancient site of Lavrion which has one of the best ancient ampitheaters. If it were not for the silver mines of Lavrion the ancient Greeks would not have defeated the Persians in the battle of Salamis since that was how they were able to build their fleet. Lavrion is the gateway to the island of Kea, another nice place for a day trip and you can also get ferries to the Cyclades and the North Aegean Islands. They have spent a fortune upgrading the port and in the future there will be a train here since it saves two hours ferry travel to the islands. Lavrion is one of the up and coming towns and the coast around it is dotted with small coves and beaches.

At the tip of the Attica peninsula on the eastern side (just around the corner from the Temple of Poseidon), lies one of the best-kept secrets of Athens beaches, Pasalimani beach (also known as Limani Pasa) in Lavrion. This magical beach isn’t as well known as some of the others, and its distance from Athens keeps heavy traffic away. Stretching out on a quiet beach alone is one of the best things to do in Athens, and this is a great spot for it. The beach is sandy and golden, with deep blue water, and clean shorelines - it’s hard to resist diving right in!



In Panormos beach of Lavrion lies the beach of Punta Zeza, which is famous for its crystal clear waters. On the long sandy coastline, grow trees to lay your towel and ensure a little dew in the shade, while those who prefer umbrellas can go to the beach bar and combine summer relaxation with food and drink.



 Sounion Pasalimani
Difficult to find this beach because the bay is well hidden from the Souniou Avenue but it is worthwhile to follow the bypass and cross the settlement of Pasha Sounio until you reach the sea.

Cape Sounio
The organized beach of the well-known hotel offers an idyllic scenery with its white sand, turquoise waters and bay overlooking the temple of Poseidon and the sailboats reminiscent of a fairy tale.

LazyVery close to Cape Sounio and the temple of Poseidon, there is a beach with fine, golden sand and clear blue waters; it is Legréna, one of the most beautiful beaches of Attica, reminiscent of the island.
